Double Page Spread in Depth Analysis

Hello bloggers, I am back with this weeks new blog!

In this blog post we will be going into more depth with the double page spread from a magazine. In the previous blog where I broke down the components that were included in the double page spread in a fashion magazine, I gave a brief explanation of what was on the double page spread. In this blog I will go in greater detail to explain what really makes up a double page spread in a magazine.

To begin with a double page spread in a magazine is basically known as an article that takes up two pages and includes photographs and writing based on a specific topic. It is know as the two pages in a magazine that are in the center and normally feature the main cover person from the front cover of the magazine. So in smaller words its a section made up of two pages that is based on the star of the magazine. It will focus on the actor, artist, or famous person included in the magazine. Now as you can see above in the double page spread it is a two page part in the magazine. Right away you can see big pink letters that state 'Nicky Minaj', this is the artist and star of this magazine. This person is a famous female rapper which most people are familiar with. So right away you can tell that this will be the person that will be discussed in these two pages. The artists name is like the masthead of this section as it is the biggest piece of writing in this section. You can also see that the background of the magazine is plain not really making much emphasis on anything else but the artist and her name. The next thing that is widely portrayed in this double page spread and others as well is the picture of the artist/star. You can see that all the attention is on Nicky Minaj and she is catching everyone attention with her photo. The artist is wearing a zebra printed dress with a colorful necklace around her neck. On top of this the artist has a very 'serious' face with her eyes almost poking out and opened widely. The artist also has her left hand up with a big ring on it that states 'ICON' in big letters. This makes the reader really look and analyze the artist and put all their focus on her. This now explains why the artist is so directly placed to cause attention to her since she is the main topic of this section. Now moving on to the left side of the page, after the title the writing begins and you can see a bigger letter  indicating that the information given on the artist is about to start, this is known as a drop cap, where the first letter of the word is in a caps big letter and colored differently than the rest of the writing. The rest of the writing on both pages is basically about the artist and things that include her works. Later on around the two pages there are subheading about specific things the magazine included about the artist, which are written in bigger and bolded letters to indicate the sebheading. On the next page of the double page spread the same things discussed are included as well. Now back to the artists picture, she is mostly centered to the right side of the double page spreading a mid shot. Th artists has lots of pops of colors that attract the audience and people reading these types of magazines. Also based off the artists wardrobe you can mostly tell that this magazine has to do with fashion based on the type of clothes she is wearing. Now at the end of the right page on the double spread, on the bottom right section the artist name will mostly be written along with the page number of the magazine. The layout of the double page spread is done pretty simply focusing on both the artist but also including lots of writing about her. Most double page spreads may be the same or may have different layouts but all circle around the same layout. This sums up the double page spread and all the components that make it up.

Genre Decision

Welcome back to this weeks blog! So  In this weeks blog I will be deciding which genre or topic I will be choosing for my final magazine project for my Media Studies class at school. After lots of research and reviewing lots of magazines and the different genres of them I have finally made a decision on my genre..... FASHION. From looking at my previous blogs you might have guessed that a i would use this genre because I included fashion magazines in most of my examples. So yes my magazine will be based on fashion, specifically modern day fashion in todays day. I choose this genre because it is very important to me. Fashion is a form of expression for people to express themselves in their own style and own it. The way a person dresses has a lot to say about the persons feelings, personality, composure and more. I like this topic because I am the type of person who believes strongly on expressing myself and voicing my opinions and feeling free to do, say, act, and dress howeve...

Mood Board

Welcome back to this weeks blog post! In this week post I will be making my mood board for my fashion magazine. This mood board will basically act as an inspiration board for the types of magazines I will be trying to recreate and what elements and items I will be using in order to do so. The mood board includes different types of magazines, models, clothing, shoes, glasses, and more. These are all my favorite types of fashion pieces and will be what I use to make my own magazine.
