History of Magazines Part.1

Hello viewers, this week we are back with another blog!

This weeks blog is going to be a bit more informational than usual, but we will be discussing the fun topic of the History of Magazine. In our Media Studies class we have discussed our Magazines, but before we begin to construct them we first need to familiarize ourselves with the history of magazines and their origin.

In this blog post I will be discussing the history of fashion magazines at where it all began! To begin with magazines first began from the printing press which led to making it easier to withhold printed information on. In the 1700 and 1800 self expression and liberty were what led to fashion and the illustration of it on magazines. During the hardest days in industrialization, this led to many escaping their reality and discovering different things about their interests and wants. This made magazines boom and sell out as they were accessible to everyone and they were the hot item at the time. From this point and one it has led to the fashion magazine industry to boom and develop itself more throughout the years in various ways. This has led us to having the great fashion magazines we have today which are known as Vogue, Elle & Co, and Harpers Bazaar.

Magazines and their prints first originated in the 1600's in which pioneers used these so called magazines for educational and exchange purposes. Then eventually around 1732 editor and publisher Edward Cave came out with a 'Gentleman Magazine' which was then referred to as a magazine. At this time this term was known as 'monthly collection of essays and articles culled from remote.' Fashion magazines arose from the brand Louis Vuitton which included sketches of clothing worn by aristocrats at the time. These sketches where significant to stress formality and importance to these people positions and also directed the dressmakers to their career paths. During the Gregorian era fashion magazines really began to boom which led to the discovery of department stores. Magazines led to that of freedom for a women to be able to escape the normal roles of being just a wife and daughter and bringing change to their lives. After some time, in 1867 the publishing firm known as Harpers and Brothers based in New York launch their first issue as a magazine, known as Harper Bazaar. Then a while after that on December 17, 1982 the first issue of American Vogue came to life. Both of these publications led to the real birth of fashion magazines and gave a voice to the fashion media we have now and still remain as popular magazines today. Now if you ask yourself where modern fashioned magazines come from, 'The Ladies World' magazine led to the era of modern fashion styles in men. The magazine changed their style from the 'high-class women to the working class', which attracted a wider audience. The magazine began to be used as a way to get inspiration and bring out new ideas from, it was used as an example.

This is it for this weeks blog post stay tuned for the continuation of the history of magazines because there is still lots to cover on how fashion magazines evolved and developed to what they are today!
